Three kinds of templates

  • Personal templates: Templates you create just for yourself. They follow you when you switch workspaces, and other members can’t see them.
  • Workspace shared templates: Templates anyone in the same workspace can use. They’re grouped under the [{workspace name} shared] area in template management.
  • Tiro Library: A set of ready-made templates from Tiro, like lecture notes, meeting minutes, and hiring interviews. Use them as is, or bring one over and edit it with the [Copy to my templates] button.

Create a template

1

Open template management

Click the [Custom Templates] menu in the sidebar profile menu, or open [Generate Document][All Templates] from a note and click the [New template] button.Creating and editing templates is available on the desktop web and app.
2

Build your sections

Templates are built section by section. Add sections to match the document’s purpose, and the section titles you enter carry straight into the final document. Clear names like “Meeting outcomes” or “To-dos” work well.
3

Pick a type for each section

Choose how each section is organized from four types.
  • [Q&A]: Paste in questions you prepared ahead of time, and Tiro finds the answers in the conversation and organizes them. Good for fixed question sets like hiring or sales interviews.
  • [Action Items]: Extracts and organizes who needs to do what, and by when.
  • [Example]: Paste in an existing document, and Tiro follows its format, tone, and structure. Paste the document’s actual content, not a URL.
  • [Plain Text]: If none of the above fit, write your own instructions for how you want the section organized.
4

Choose where to save

Save it to the [Personal] scope, or share it with everyone using the [Share to {workspace name}] option. You can change the scope later from the template detail view, and only the person who created the template can change its scope or edit and delete it.

Apply a template to a note

  • Straight from a note: In a note where recording has ended, click the [Generate Document] button and pick a template to create a document in that format.
  • Set it on a folder in advance: Assign a custom document template in a folder’s automation settings, and new notes in that folder get a document in that format automatically when recording ends. You can’t set this per note. For details, see Folder automation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit and reuse Tiro’s built-in templates?

Yes. Click the [Copy to my templates] button on a Tiro Library template to copy it into your own templates. You can edit the copy freely.

Who can edit a workspace shared template?

Anyone in the workspace can use it, but only the person who created the template can edit it, delete it, or change its share scope. Tiro can’t read URLs. Open the document, copy its actual content, and paste it in as is. Tiro reads the markdown, tone, and structure and builds the same shape.

Can I create templates on mobile?

Creating and editing templates is available on the desktop web and app. Generating a custom document from a template you already made works on mobile too.
