Before you start

You need all of the following to use Tiro Watch.
  • Apple Watch Series 6 or later
  • watchOS 11.0 or later
  • The Tiro iOS app installed on the paired iPhone
The Tiro Watch app installs automatically alongside the Tiro app on your iPhone. You don’t need to download it separately from the App Store.

What you can do with the Tiro Watch app

  • Start a recording right from your Apple Watch
  • Pause, resume, and check elapsed time while recording
  • Send the recording to the Tiro app on your iPhone automatically once you finish
  • Pick up a saved recording and keep going
  • Add a complication to start a recording with a single tap
  • Start a recording with Double Tap on supported models

How to start recording on your Apple Watch

1. Start from the Tiro Watch app

  • Open the Tiro Watch app on your Apple Watch.
  • Tap the red microphone button in the center of the screen.
  • The first time, tap Allow microphone access.
  • Recording starts right away.

2. Add the [Record] complication to your watch face

Add the complication and you can start a recording with a single tap from your watch face. To set it up, see the How to add a complication section below.

3. Start with Siri

Say “Start Recording in Tiro” to Siri, and Tiro Watch opens and starts recording.

How to add a complication

A complication is a small shortcut you pin to your watch face. Add the Tiro complication and you can start a recording without opening the app list.

Add it from your Apple Watch

  • Press and hold the watch face.
  • Tap Edit.
  • Swipe left or right to reach the complications editing screen.
  • Tap the slot you want to change.
  • Find and select Tiro in the app list.
  • Press the Digital Crown to finish editing.
  • When the Tiro icon appears on your watch face, you’re done.

Add it from the iPhone Watch app

  • Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  • On the My Watch tab, tap the watch face you’re currently using.
  • Find the Complications area and tap the slot you want.
  • Select Tiro from the list.
  • Wait a moment, and it appears on your Apple Watch face.
When [Tiro] doesn’t show up in the list Each watch face supports different complication slots. Check the following.
  • Open the Tiro Watch app once on your watch.
  • Confirm your iPhone and watch are paired and connected over Bluetooth.
  • Try a different watch face or a different slot.

How to use the Tiro Watch app

What you can do while recording

The recording screen has these three buttons.
  • Pause: pauses for a moment
  • Resume: continues a paused recording
  • Done: finishes the recording and sends it to your iPhone
A live audio waveform shows in the center, and the elapsed time shows at the top.

Recordings send to your iPhone automatically when you finish

When you finish a recording, the audio sends to the Tiro app on your paired iPhone automatically.
  • Tap the Done button on the recording screen.
  • In the prompt, choose End and send.
  • Once the transfer finishes, it shows up as a new note in the Tiro app on your iPhone.
For a smooth transfer, keep the Tiro app open on your iPhone. The transfer can lag while the app is in the background. Keep your Apple Watch and iPhone close together and wait a moment.

Reusing a saved recording on your watch

If the connection drops or you leave the screen mid-recording, the recording stays on your watch home screen as a Saved recordings row.
  • Tap the Saved recordings row on the home screen to Resume and keep recording.
  • Swipe the row left to Save, which ends the recording and sends it straight to your iPhone.
  • Tap the trash icon to delete the recording.

Start recording faster with Double Tap

On supported models, you can start a recording just by tapping two fingers together with Double Tap.
  • Open the Tiro Watch app on your Apple Watch.
  • On the home screen (where the red microphone button shows), tap your thumb and index finger together twice.
  • Recording starts exactly as if you’d pressed the red microphone button.
Supported models are Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, and other Double Tap models. Double Tap doesn’t work in these situations. This is Apple Watch’s default behavior, not a problem with the Tiro app.
  • Low Power Mode is on
  • Sleep Focus is on
  • Your wrist is down and the screen is off
  • The Apple Watch is locked
  • AssistiveTouch is on
  • The Apple Watch is set up as a Family Setup watch
In these cases, press the red microphone button on the screen directly, or tap the complication to open Tiro Watch.

Use hand gestures with AssistiveTouch

If pressing the screen is hard, or you’d rather use hand gestures, you can use the Apple Watch AssistiveTouch feature. AssistiveTouch is an Apple Watch system feature, so it works the same way in Tiro Watch. There are two ways to turn it on.
  • On your watch: SettingsAccessibilityAssistiveTouch on → Hand Gestures on
  • On your iPhone: Watch app → My WatchAccessibilityAssistiveTouch on
The default hand gestures are as follows.
  • Pinch: move to the next item
  • Double Pinch: move to the previous item
  • Clench: select
  • Double Clench: open the action menu
In Tiro Watch, pinch to move to the red microphone button, then clench to select it, and recording starts.
Turning on AssistiveTouch disables the regular Double Tap feature. You can also change the hand gestures yourself in Apple Watch settings.

When a recording saves automatically

In these situations, the recording saves automatically to protect your data.
  • Low storage: when watch storage drops below 50MB, the recording saves automatically and stops. To start a recording, your watch needs at least 150MB of storage. If it’s short, starting is blocked outright.
  • Low battery: when watch battery drops below 25%, the recording saves automatically and stops. To start a recording, you need 25% or more battery remaining.
You can send an auto-saved recording to your iPhone by tapping the Save button on the Saved recordings row of the home screen.

Frequently asked questions

Recording won’t start.

Check microphone permission, battery (25% or more), and storage (150MB or more). If you denied permission, you can turn it back on from your watch’s SettingsTiro menu.

[Tiro] doesn’t show up in the complication list.

Open the Tiro Watch app once on your watch, then try adding it again. Each watch face supports different complication types, so you may need to pick a different watch face or slot.

I finished a recording, but no note shows up on my iPhone.

Keep your watch and iPhone close together, keep the Tiro app open on your iPhone, and wait a moment. If it still doesn’t arrive, tap the Save button again on the Saved recordings row of your watch home screen.

Can I play back a recording on my watch?

Tiro Watch doesn’t support playing back or editing recordings. Once a note finishes transferring, you can play it back, edit it, and review it in the Tiro app on your iPhone.

Is there a limit on recording length?

There’s no separate limit on recording length itself. With enough storage and battery, you can record for a long time. You can create a saved recording on your watch even without internet, and the transfer to your iPhone happens over a Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connection.
